Curriculum Vitae

Jens Bobers has studied Biochemical Engineering from 2010 to 2014 at TU Dortmund University and finished his studies with his bachelor thesis about the topic “Direct heat exchange between gases and fluids in packed bed columns” in cooperation with ENVIMAC Engineering GmbH. He finished the Chemical Engineering master program at TU Dortmund University with his master thesis about “Development of a temperature sensor manufactured by thin film technology for a polymer foil micro reactor” at the Laboratory of Equipment Design in January 2018. Since April 2018 he works as research assistant at the Laboratory of Equipment Design investigating production techniques and sensor concepts for polymer micro reactors.

Research

For flexible production plants and sensible reactants, micro reactors provide a high specific surface and low volume to enhance transport processes and minimize hazardous potential.

Single-use or multi-use polymer foil micro reactors are a mass-produced and cheap alternative to other micro reactor concepts. Thin film technologies allow combining the manufacture of polymer micro reactors with the flexible production of micro-scale sensors directly on the surface of the reactor.

The high flexibility of this technology and the biocompatibility of the substrate material lead to other applications like microarrays.

In cooperation with the faculty of electrical engineering and the faculty of chemical biology, new production processes for polyimide-based microreactors are investigated. Based on this, an automated and continuous screening system for chemical reactions and catalysts is being developed containing liquid handling system, microreactor and, an analytical method.
